FX Box Photoshop (Legacy Version)
The FX Box Photoshop extension was a free tool created by The Orange Box that allowed users to load and run various FX tools inside a single panel.
Adobe has since discontinued support for CEP/ZXP extensions, which means the FX Box Photoshop panel is no longer officially supported and does not work in current Photoshop versions.

All FX tools that were originally built for FX Box Photoshop — free and premium — have now been fully migrated to modern UXP plugin formats (.ccx). These updated versions are available directly from the individual plugin authors and work on all current Photoshop releases.
Migrated Free FX Tools
All free FX tools from the old FX Box Photoshop system are now available as standalone UXP plugins: Free Plugins
Migrated Premium FX Tools
The original FX Box Photoshop extension relies on legacy CEP technology. It may not function correctly on Photoshop 2022, 2023, 2024, or 2026.
While it can still be installed on some systems, using it on modern Macs (M1/M2/M3) or newer Windows builds can lead to stability issues or unexpected freezes.
If you are using an older Photoshop build (CC 2015–2020) or want to try the last legacy version (FX Box v1.3) on your current setup, you can download it here:
FAQ: FX Box Photoshop Legacy
Can I still use FX Box Photoshop on Windows?
Yes! In our tests, the FX Box Photoshop extension still installs and runs correctly on most Windows PC setups — even in the latest Photoshop 2026. If you are on a PC, you can likely keep using your favorite workflow without issues.
What about my existing tools?
If you can get the FX Box Photoshop panel running (e.g. on a PC), you can continue to install and use your previously purchased legacy tools inside it. However, if you switch to a new Mac (M1/M2/M3), we recommend upgrading to the modern standalone UXP versions.
Are the new plugins free?
The classic freebies (Oil Paint, HDR Sharpener, Photo Effects) are available as free standalone UXP plugins. The premium tools (like Watercolor FX or Sketch FX) have been completely rebuilt as advanced standalone products (paid), but no longer require the FX Box Photoshop container to run.
